This year’s regatta is set to take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Lake Anne Plaza. The day is set to be exciting creative and one of teamwork and friendly competition while supporting the Reston Museum’s mission.

The Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta invites teams of diverse ages to design and build life-sized boats constructed out of cardboard. These boats compete in timed trials as team members paddle to a designated position and back to the docks. The Regatta benefits the Reston Museum by raising money while aiding in the goal of bringing the community together.

ECS’ involvement in the regatta is driven by the desire to promote its core values of collaborate, focus and lead. “Building a cardboard boat, something that shouldn’t float, takes teamwork, from brainstorming to construction, transport and launch,” said ECS Business Development Manager Lauren Zangl. “ECS employees must collaborate and focus on the goal of constructing a cardboard boat that should make it across the finish line; using our engineering skills for something fun is an added benefit.”

ECS and the Reston Museum formed a partnership because many employees, clients, and their offices are located in Reston. By participating in the event, ECS aims to strengthen its bond with the local community while also creating an enjoyable environment.

In addition to enhancing community relations, ECS hopes the event fosters camaraderie among its employees. “I am so excited about participating in the Reston Cardboard Boat Regatta because I know it will be a good time, even if we fail and the boat sinks under us! I am also excited, potentially more so, about connecting with my colleagues during the build phase,” shared Lauren.

ECS invites its colleagues, clients and the community to support the regatta by cheering from the sidelines or participating in event activities. For those interested in supporting the event or learning more about the Reston Museum, additional information can be found on the museum’s website at www.restonmuseum.org.
