FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EWB-USA empowers communities to meet their basic human needs and partners with them to develop leaders and envisions a world where these leaders are equipped to help build thriving communities.

The partnership between ECS and EWB-USA began with a vision to empower, inspire, influence and partner with underserved communities to build a more sustainable world.

One of EWB-USA’s current projects is in Malawi where work to improve a roadway provides villagers with reliable access to healthcare, education, food and other services. The existing main road in the village becomes impassable during the rainy season, significantly hindering the community’s access to these vital resources. Although the project is in the early stages, villagers are excited about EWB’s involvement and look forward to the project’s completion.

Senior Vice President and Subsidiary Regional Manager of ECS, Bryan Layman, has been actively involved with the Malawi project and been a part of EWB-USA for more than 15 years. Layman first encountered EWB-USA at an engineering professional organization luncheon where he learned about the positive impact the organization has on marginalized communities.

“I am incredibly happy to be a part of Engineers Without Borders USA and to represent ECS in the Malawi project,” said Layman. “It’s a privilege to contribute to a mission that helps improves the lives of the people in Malawi. Our work on the roadway-improvement project should help support better quality of life for the community.”

Founded in 2002 by University of Colorado professor Bernard Amadei, EWB-USA was born out of a desire to address the disparity in engineering resources allocated to the world’s most underserved populations. Inspired by a 2001 water and sanitation project in a Mayan community in Belize, Amadei and his students wanted to create sustainable engineering solutions for the billions who lack fundamental services. EWB-USA addresses serious issues such as unsoiled drinking water, sanitation systems, sustainable energy and transportation infrastructure.

EWB-USA warmly welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds to get involved and support its mission. Individuals and companies that are interested in getting more involved can visit the EWB-USA website to connect with a local chapter and contribute their skills in meaningful and life-changing ways. Anyone passionate about building a better world is encouraged to join.
