Safety

We Value Safety

ECS has integrated safety into our culture by developing it as a value, not just a priority. While priorities may change, values do not.

Our STAR program is a behavior-based process in which employees observe coworkers regularly to reinforce good safety practices, as well as identify and correct unsafe practices that might lead to injury.

  • S: Stop what they are doing
  • T: Think about the dangers present and safe ways to perform the task
  • A: Act in a safe manner, and frequently reassess
  • R: Refine their actions so they can perform the task even more safely next time

At ECS, we constantly evolve and move toward the future and new capabilities in our industry. ECS values safety from the top executive level to the employees out in the field. Staying current on the most common industry injuries, the philosophies of safety, and new ways we can create safety measures or continue to keep our employees safe is one of the top priorities at ECS. When it comes to our industry, we deal with a high-risk field of work.

To help achieve a more secure work environment, we are developing an incident management system where we can measure metrics, data, and information and see trends. This new system is a tracking network that will be maintained on every job site with injury and incident information compiled in a Power BI dashboard system. The data will show how the incident happened, why it happened and present dollars lost to the respective cost codes presented.

We encourage our employees to speak up. Regardless of a tight deadline out in the field, we want our employees to be transparent with how they feel about the safety of a task or worksite, regardless of production, profitability, or ability rates. Prioritizing our employees’ safety helps the communities around us. If our job isn’t done correctly, it affects us as a company and the public. However, to help eliminate hazards and potential mistakes, we strive for a safe job site to begin our projects. For example, ECS utilizes performance drones, artificial intelligence services, and other technical tools to complete tasks quickly and safely.

We have employees in organizations prioritizing safety, such as the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). This organization provides ongoing safety training and changes and notifies us of potential new laws, in addition to results for not abiding by standard practices.

In Our Own Words

“The construction industry has long accepted the inherent risk of employee injury. We have all seen Lunch atop a Skyscraper – a famous photo of construction workers eating lunch on the steel beams of a skyscraper taken in 1932. However, as time has progressed, so has the safety culture and regulations of the industry. Here at ECS, we understand that safety is paramount to continue being leaders in the construction industry. Our goal on the safety team is to ensure that everyone goes home at the end of the day.” – John Fultz, Nashville Safety Officer
